MW Forest Sense to Conduct Remote Analysis of Älvdalen and Särna-Idre Besparingsskogar in Dalarna

MW Forest Sense, a subsidiary of the MW Group, has announced that it will be conducting a complete remote analysis of Älvdalen and Särna-Idre Besparingsskogar in Dalarna, Sweden. The remote analysis will cover a total of 130,000 hectares of forest, and will involve data collection from various sources, including high-resolution laser data, data analysis and visualization, and customer consultation.

Älvdalen and Särna-Idre Besparingsskogar have been pioneers in the use of remote sensing in forestry, having been scanned with high-resolution laser as far back as 2007 With Forest Sense’s high-resolution laser scanning, it will mark the second time that the forests have been scanned separately with high-resolution, allowing them to update their forest registers and identify optimal harvesting times. The analysis will be conducted in the summer and fall of 2023. It will include information on the forests’ natural values and carbon sinks, as well as terrain conditions and management needs.

Some said we had the first project with high-resolution laser in the world, and now we are taking a new innovation step,” tells Håkan Lissman, System-Coordination and Raw Materials Manager at Särna-Idres Besparingsskogar.

ForestSense specializes in remote sensing services for institutional forest owners and forest companies, providing tailored customer services that cover the entire value chain, from customer consultation and data collection to complete plans. The company is committed to fusing various data sources, analyzing them using sophisticated methods and AI, and providing comprehensive and easy-to-visualize information about the forest.

”We are creating a comprehensive and easy-to-understand overview of the forest as a resource, ecosystem, and work environment, helping customers to gain added value from the forest that would otherwise not be accessible,” said Sixten Sunabacka, executive partner at MW ForestSense.

”We’re thrilled about the potential benefits this technology and expertise that MW Forest Sense can bring,” says Håkan Lissman,

MW Forest Sense’s remote analysis of Älvdalen and Särna-Idre Besparingsskogar will provide a reliable picture of the forests, both as an economical resource and a valuable resource for biodiversity, aligning with the sustainable management practices of Besparingsskogar.
